Girl Power@Mediakids

Mediakids Broadcast #1
Girl Power@Mediakids
Chocolate Chip Cookies

Wei Ying, Shi Min: Good Morning, welcome to Girl Power@Mediakids.

Wei Ying: I am Wei Ying.

Shi Min: And I am Shi Min.

WY: We are your EJs today!

SM: Hey Wei Ying, What is an EJ?

WY: EJ is short for English Jockey, just like DJ is short for Disc Jockey. A DJ is an announcer of a radio show of popular recorded music.

SM: So an EJ is an announcer of a English radio show, like this one.

WY: Exactly! So what is our show today about?

SM: This! (Sound of Shi Min eating a chocolate chip cookie)

WY: Chocolate Chip Cookies! Yummy!

SM: Mr Chua from Blangah Rise Primary wants to know who invented Chocolate Chip Cookies.

WY: and the answer is…a girl!

SM: Ruth Wakefield, a girl, invented it quite accidentally!

WY: Yes. Ruth owned a restaurant. One day, she was making chocolate butter drop cookies which was very popular in those days.

SM: The recipe required her to melt chocolate squares and pour them into the batter before baking.

WY: However, she was impatient and broke the chocolate into chunks and threw them in to mix. She thought the chocolate chunks would melt when the cookies baked.

SM: She was wrong of course. Instead, she baked a pan of the first Chocolate Chip Cookies. Ruth and her customers tasted it and they found the cookies delicious!

WY: So, there you have it. The inventor of Chocolate Chip Cookies was a girl, Ruth Wakefield.
SM: That’s all on this week’s Girl Power at Mediakids

WY: Tune in next week for more girl power stuff!
